In commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, The LU Office of Strategic Initiatives is hosting Portraits of Survival which features modern day portraits of Holocaust survivors. Next to each photo is a card telling the survivor’s story and how they came to rebuild their life.

Point-In-Time (PIT) Count is a single-day event to gather data on needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Southeast Texas. LU LEAD Leadership Certificate Program helps students develop leadership, teamwork, public speaking, and communication skills, and connect with other students and staff. It's a great way to grow as a person and a leader on campus. Participants also receive cords for graduation. by Friday, Jan. 19.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is looking for student volunteers for the 2024 tax preparation sites on campus and the Neighborhood Resource Center on Gulf Street in Beaumont. The VITA program is a free program that provides tax filing to individuals who had a total household income of $64,000 or less during 2023. VITA is also seeking IRS-certified tax preparers. Certification clases will be held on the LU campus on Saturday, Jan. 20. Please contact the LU Office of Strategic Initiatives at (409) 880-7169 for more information.

Each year, the State of Texas seeks applicants for non-voting student representatives to the Texas State University System (TSUS) Board of Regents and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Students selected for these positions play an important part in representing the students of each Texas public university.

Applicants must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA, be able to attend required TSUS or THECB meetings, and have a strong drive and self-motivation to contribute to the progress of higher education in Texas. Applications must be printed out and submitted no later than Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. to the Office of the President, Reaud Building, Room 321.
