LU hosts International Education Week
ËÄ»¢Ó°ÊÓ will celebrate International Education Week though an array of multicultural activities and events promoting this year’s theme, “Empowering Young People through International Education” from November 14 to 19. All events are free and open to the public.
“This week, we celebrate the many ways we benefit from an international education. It's our mission to prepare our students for a global environment, so we put together several activities that use films, speakers, workshops, and fun social events to encourage global awareness,” said Jeff Palis, director of global studies and study abroad.
On November 14, students will learn about opportunities to teach English overseas at the Mary and John Gray Library, 6th floor, at 2 p.m. Later that day, professor John Wells of the School of Health Sciences at Waterford Institute of Technology will give a public lecture on global drug addiction in the Mamie McFaddin Ward Health Sciences Building at 4 p.m.
An international current event panel will meet to discuss “Brexit” and its impact on European health care, trade, politics and public opinion November 15 at 3 p.m. in the Reaud Administration Building, Executive Event Room.
Cardinals will explore world languages with fellow international students at the Lamar Language Fair November 16 in front of the Family & Consumer Sciences Building from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Also on November 16, a public talk in literature titled “Dublin 1904: A Journey to Ireland with Joyce’s Ulysses” will take place in the Maes building at 3:30 p.m., and at 7 p.m., LU's chapter of Phi Beta Delta International Honors Society will offer an International Film night to view “Persepolis.
Cardinals Beyond Borders will introduce its program to connect LU’s global students November 17 at 1 p.m., 6th floor of the Mary and John Gray Library. The Reaud Honors College will host Cardinals Return Home, a student panel on the study abroad experience, at 4 p.m. and an International Scholarship Workshop at 5:30 p.m. in the Reaud Administration Building, Executive Event Room.
To conclude the week, LU students will host an International Cultural Festival featuring food and performances from around the world in the Montagne Center from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
International Education Week is sponsored by the Office of Study Abroad, Office of International Student Services, Office of Diversity & Inclusion, Reaud Honors College, Phi Beta Delta International Honors Society, JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing and the Department of English & Modern Languages.
