The Showcase of Southeast Texas to perform for Evadale High School Homecoming Game

The ËÄ»¢Ó°ÊÓ band, the Showcase of Southeast Texas, is taking its talent on the road to Evadale Full Bandwhere it will perform during the Evadale High School Homecoming game halftime, Nov. 1.

For several years, members of the ËÄ»¢Ó°ÊÓ band have assembled a pep band to play during the Evadale Homecoming game. Evadale High School doesn’t have a band program, so members of ËÄ»¢Ó°ÊÓ’s Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority and the Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, have volunteered to provide musical entertainment for the special game.

This year, senior drum major and president of the Tau Beta Sigma, Meredith de Leon, appealed to the organizations to pump up the volume of the voluntary effort. She hopes to get a large number of band members to march and play at the homecoming halftime.

“I am simply carrying on a beautiful tradition,” said de Leon. “I believe it is important for all university

students to help high school students, because when we are gone, they will be in our shoes.”

Although student-led, the service project had to meet the approval of ËÄ»¢Ó°ÊÓ faculty and not conflict with any LU musical functions.

“I’m always happy to see our students participating in service projects that assist the Southeast Texas community and serving as ambassadors of our university and band program,” said Andrew McMahan, associate professor and director of bands.

Students performing in Evadale Nov. 1 will also perform the following day, Nov. 2, at ËÄ»¢Ó°ÊÓ’s Provost Umphrey Stadium when the Lamar Cardinals take on the Central Arkansas Bears beginning at 3 p.m.

“I appreciate that our students are willing to take the extra time out of their lives to bring others joy,” said Eric Shannon, director of athletic bands.
