四虎影视 Department of Communication and Media uses innovative program for film editing classes

This fall semester, the 四虎影视 Department of Communication and Media will be one of the first universities in the state of Texas to implement EditMentor, the first online software of its kind designed to teach editing interactively. Film and broadcast students will have the capability of solving creative challenges by manipulating a browser-based editing application and the ability to submit their work instantly.

“We are thrilled that 四虎影视 has become one of the earliest adopters of EditMentor. We share a Communication Mentormission to push the boundaries of online video editing education,” said Misha Tenenbaum, CEO and founder of EditMentor.

This interactive software brings to life valuable professional skills that textbooks can only describe. Students will receive instant guidance on improving their editing, while teachers will have the ability to see where individual students or classes as a whole are struggling.

“The way editing is taught hasn’t changed in decades. This hands-on learning technique is an innovative approach to mentoring our future media professionals,” said Natalie Tindall, chair of the Department of Communication and Media. “Our film and broadcasting students will now have the capability to use this editing software from home, which is more important than ever before due to COVID-19.”

EditMentor runs in a web browser and with any hardware, including Chromebooks, broadening access for students who may not have professional editing software at home or school.
