Beaumont City Council officially proclaimed September 17 as "�Ļ�Ӱ�� Day" to celebrate the institution's centennial milestone. This proclamation comes as �Ļ�Ӱ�� prepares to mark its 100th year of academic excellence and community contributions. 

The proclamation – read by city council member Audwin Samuel – highlighted the relationship �Ļ�Ӱ�� has with Southeast Texas and the impact the institution has on the community.   

“Throughout the twentieth century, �Ļ�Ӱ�� has served Southeast Texas in a strategic, relevant, and sustainable way. Our founders wanted education that produced leaders for this region, and they succeeded,” Samuel said. “Today, �Ļ�Ӱ�� is a thriving boomtown of knowledge with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students that create a campus culture that’s committed to student engagement and success and to the achievement of research and relevance that energizes economic development locally, nationally, and around the world.”  

�Ļ�Ӱ�� President Dr. Jaime Taylor received the proclamation, and reinforced LU’s commitment to serving Southeast Texas in the future.  

“The centennial celebration is a great opportunity to look back over the last one hundred years and see how Beaumont and �Ļ�Ӱ�� have worked together and continue to grow upon that over the next one hundred years,” Taylor said.
